We offer music classes in Los Angeles for individuals interested in writing, producing, mixing, recording, or even learning more about negotiating contracts. A cutting-edge school for aspiring music engineers, artists, producers, and more, 1500 Sound Academy will supply you with all the tools to take your career to the next level.
The following steps detail the application process and items needed to complete the application for our Music & Industry Fundamentals and DJ Fundamentals programs.
Music & Industry Fundamentals (On-Campus and Live Online) and DJ Fundamentals (On-Campus Only)
- Be at least 17 years of age
- Complete and submit the online application
- Pay a one-time non-refundable $50.00 application fee
- Schedule an interview
- Provide links to two pieces of work
- Provide a copy of high school transcripts and diploma, or a GED

Upon successful completion you will earn a digital badge for each course.

Music & Industry Fundamentals Program
1500 Sound Academy is proud to offer a comprehensive Music & Industry Fundamentals Program that includes music production and everything you need to know to thrive in the music business. From production and engineering techniques to branding and marketing, our students graduate from our innovative program with the in-depth skills required to go from zero to a career. Here’s a look at our courses:
Music Production This course addresses all aspects of digital music production, including drum sequencing, music theory for producers, and studio etiquette. We teach production in Ableton Live.
EngineeringThe Engineering course in our music school is essential for aspiring music engineers. We discuss digital audio fundamentals, vocal recording techniques, and recording templates. This class is taught in Pro Tools.
Songwriting Covers song structure, lyric and melody writing, and song analysis. This class will also discuss more advanced aspects of music theory.
Mixing We cover the fundamentals of music mixing in this course, including vocal production, balancing levels, and creating space. We also address current mix delivery requirements. Mixing is taught in Pro Tools.
Music Business For a complete understanding of the complex business end of the music industry, this course covers the foundations of managing a music career, including publishing, copyright, contracts, and taxes.
Artist Branding In this course, we introduce aspiring music artists, producers, and other industry professionals to various aspects of the music industry, including branding, marketing, song distribution, and online presence.
DJ Fundamentals Program
1500 Sound Academy is proud to offer DJ classes in Los Angeles with a comprehensive curriculum encompassing everything to learn about being a DJ and the industry, including DJing basics, mixing, performance, and much more! Here is a look at our DJ courses:
DJ Essentials Learn the fundamentals of digital digging, music organization, mixing, equipment, and the history of DJing as an artform. We’ll go over the history of Disc Jockeys and two-turntable systems, DJ controllers, mixing fundamentals, Serato DJ Pro and digital crate digging.
CDJs and Mixers In this course you’ll learn DJ hardware configuration, Rekordbox, playlist preparation, hot cues, BPM and grid adjustment, performing from USB flash drives, sorting tracks, beat sync, master tempo and looping using Pioneer CDJ-3000s and Pioneer DJM-750MK2 DJ Mixers.
Art of Mixing Learn different methods of mixing to find your own style. We’ll explore beat matching, harmonic mixing, looping, remixing, tempo mixing, audio effects, scratching and utilizing song structures.
DJ Performance Learn how to prepare for different stages and lengths of performance, performance etiquette, mix pacing, streaming setups, recording, creating and editing mixes and releasing mixes.
DJ Music Business DJ Music Business will teach you the corporate structure of the DJ world. You’ll learn contracts, publishing licenses, streaming/distribution and synchronization licenses. The course will explore management, performance contracts, residencies, budgeting, streaming legalities, booking agents and music copyrights.
DJ Branding In this course you’ll learn how to maintain a image and brand that aligns with your values, aesthetics, taste and creativity as a professional DJ.
